Clostridioides (formerly Clostridium) difficile infection (CDI) is a gram-positive, anaerobic, spore-forming bacteria spread through fecal-oral transmission. Efforts to prevent CDI are multifactorial and include antimicrobial stewardship, development of testing criteria, infection prevention strategies such as hand washing, and ensuring meticulous environmental cleaning.
At Regions Hospital, interdisciplinary teams work on developing performance improvement techniques and best practices. We also use human-centered design methodology to address more persistent challenges. Through the human-centered design approach, we utilized Epic decision support to support diagnostic stewardship and sustainable solutions to reduce hospital-acquired C difficile infections.
