Monday, October 17, 2022 at 2 pm ET
Hosts: Heather Gilmartin, PhD, NP, CIC and Sarah Smathers, MPH, CIC, FAPIC
The COVID-19 pandemic has been an incredibly challenging time for Infection Preventionists. Although burnout in health care is not new, the ongoing pandemic and monkeypox outbreak has increased the complexity of our work. This has led to crisis levels of exhaustion, burnout and turnover. If you are feeling this way, know you are not alone, and there are ways to get yourself and your team back on the path to wellness. In this session, two experienced IPs and researchers will share their stories about working during COVID-19 and simple things anyone can do to find some joy in Infection Prevention.
Learning Objectives
-Describe the scientific evidence regarding the causes of HCP burnout and the consequences for IPs and patients.
-Discuss interventions to support IP wellness and joy, including the Institute for Healthcare Improvement Joy in Work Framework and the use of mindfulness-based practices.
-Discuss the theory versus practice of implementing evidence-based wellness interventions within infection prevention departments.
