Presentation #1: Training During Turmoil: Onboarding the next generation of infection prevention

In the COVID/post-COVID world, the demand for Infection Preventionists (IPs) is rapidly increasing while the scope is expanding. IPs currently in the field must take the lead in training the next generation while continuing to meet our ever-increasing workload. This talk will show how one health system developed a training program, then successfully onboarded and supported five novice IPs in the midst of the pandemic.
Presentation #2: Reducing Reported Clostridiodes difficile Infection Rates Via Diagnostic Stewardship and Just In Time Provider Education

Unnecessary testing can result in the incorrect diagnosis of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI), unnecessary CDI treatment, increased costs and over-reporting of hospital-acquired infection (HAI) rates. To reduce reported hospital-acquired CDI rates, we implemented an innovative program to review indications for ordered tests in real time through a “pause and review” program with providers and nurses that targeted nucleic amplification testing (NAAT). Our efforts over nearly 2 years has greatly reduced C. difficile NAAT orders and markedly lowered reported hospital CDI rates and prevented unnecessary treatment and patient isolation.
