Construction Renovation Demolition - Information You Need!
Wednesday, October 4, 2023 @ 1 pm ET
Lela Luper RN BSN CIC FAPIC and John Williams CBO

This session is designed to help the infection preventionist develop a range of understanding about healthcare construction, renovation, and demolition and the impact these activities have on the environment of care. Often infection preventionists’ come from a clinical background with little experience and comprehension of what construction, renovation, and demolition projects entail within their organization. We want to help attendees recognize the use of nationally established and recognized design and construction guidelines to gain assurance in this area. Regardless of the setting, such as hospital, outpatient, or residential care, there are practices the infection preventionist can follow to determine the minimum standards for any project they may be approached about in their organization. We want to provide some of these steps and tips to practice in their facility. Often because infection preventionists are not familiar with the construction, renovation, and demolition process, there is a lack of confidence when describing and demonstrating their role during the project’s progression. We want to provide the knowledge and skills to remove uncertainty and doubt about the infection preventionists’ role.
